Under the SEND Code of Practice (2014), whole-school universal provision ensures high-quality teaching and inclusive practices that meet the needs of all learners, including those with SEND.

| Areas of need |
The SEND Code of Practice (2014) identifies four broad areas where learners may require additional support: Communication and Interaction, Cognition and Learning, Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH), and Sensory and/or Physical Needs.
|
| Areas of development (Appendix 4: SEND reform) |
Children and young people use these areas in different combinations to help them take part, engage and learn in every phase and type of education.
